Parrying Malgarr with Womindjeka Gum Leaves Design.
Traditionally malgarr ( shields ) were used with liyangayil ( fighting clubs)
for hand to hand combat with our enemies. I have replicated the shape of
these shields in my artwork.
Many Gum Leaves “Djerrang-U Wurrdhadindu”
Green gum leaves are burnt in a “darnuk” or wooden bowl.
This creates smoke, which we invite visitors to walk through to be cleansed and welcomed to our country. Womindjeka - Welcome
