This Medium Wall Malgarr (shield) features Bunjil the Wedge-tailed Eagle Design and is handcrafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.
Traditionally, malgarr (shields) were used with liyangayil (fighting clubs) for hand-to-hand combat with our enemies. I have replicated the shape of these shields in my artwork.
Bunjil the wedge-tailed eagle created the Earth and all the living things in it. Once Bunjil finished creating the Earth, he and his six special men were blown by Bellin Bellin the Musk Crow’s winds to live in plenty in the sky as stars.
All designs are based on traditional symbols from South East Australia. Each artefact comes with an information card about Mick Harding the artist, the artefact and its design.
