This medium Parrying Malgarr (shield) features Garorrk the Brolga Design and is handcrafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.

Traditionally, malgarr (shields) were used with liyangayil (fighting clubs) for hand-to-hand combat with our enemies. I have replicated the shape of these shields in my artwork.

Garorrk Biik Ngarrgi. Brolgas Dancing on Biik.

Garorrk are found in grasslands and wetlands across Country. They pair for life and are known for their vibrant mating ritual dance.

All designs are based on traditional symbols from South East Australia. Each artefact comes with an information card about Mick Harding the artist, the artefact and its design.
