This large Wall Malgarr (shield) features Barebin Buk the Long Necked Turtle Design and is handcrafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.

Traditionally, malgarr (shields) were used with liyangayil (fighting clubs) for hand-to-hand combat with our enemies. I have replicated the shape of these shields in my artwork.

Barebin Buk the Long Necked Turtle is native to South East Australia. These turtles are often found in slow-moving or still water in rivers, creeks, swamps and wetlands.

He is a good indicator of the health of the wetlands and rivers. He is a spirit animal for many mobs.

All designs are based on traditional symbols from South East Australia. Each artefact comes with an information card about Mick Harding the artist, the artefact and its design.

As each shield is handmade, measurements are approximate.
