Pairs well with

Small Wide Wall Malgarr (shield) with Barebin Buk Turtle Design, handcrafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.

Traditionally, malgarr (shields) were used with liyangayil (fighting clubs) for hand-to-hand combat with our enemies. I have replicated the shape of these shields in my artwork.

Barebin Buk, the Long Necked Turtle, lives in the still waters of rivers and creeks. He is a good indicator of river health.

All designs are based on traditional symbols from South East Australia. Each artefact comes with an information card about Mick Harding the artist, the artefact and its design.

Material and size

  • Handcrafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.
  • Size: Small Wide (WMSW).
  • Approximate measurements: 375–450 mm long × 155 mm wide × 20 mm deep.

As each shield is handmade, measurements are approximate.

A hanger is attached to the back of the shield for easy wall display, as shown in the photo.
