Pairs well with
Handcrafted Australian Red Cedar wall shield featuring a Scar Tree design by Mick Harding. Micks art reflects the shapes and symbols of South East Australia.
This small wide malgarr combines traditional Aboriginal shield form with contemporary
wall art, bringing cultural heritage and artisanal craftsmanship into your home.
Malgarr were traditionally paired with liyangayil (fighting clubs) in hand-to-hand combat. The artist has reimagined this iconic shape as functional artwork, drawing inspiration from ancestral knowledge passed down by elders about harvesting timber for gurrong (canoes), malgarr (shields) and tarnuk (multi-use containers) when sap runs strong.
Each handmade shield is uniquely crafted from sustainable Australian Red Cedar with naturally occurring variations. Pre-mounted with hanging hardware for easy wall display.
Includes artist information card detailing the creator, design symbolism, and cultural context. Made in Australia by Indigenous artisan Mick Harding who is committed to authentic storytelling and respectful cultural representation.
Size: WMSW (small wide).
Dimensions: approximately 550mm long × 155mm wide × 20mm deep. Measurements may vary slightly because each shield is handmade.
