WESTERN WATER RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN (RAP) ARTWORK

We were commissioned to create an artwork for the Western Water Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan 2019-2021.
My artwork is titled
Baan Marram - Nganjin - Al.  Baan Miimigat - Al
Everything We are is Water.  Everything Living Relies on It

In creating the artwork I wanted to highlight the unique biodiversity of the
Maribyrnong and Werribee River catchments over which Western Water operates.

I have included the platypus, an iconic species of the Maribyrnong and Werribee catchment areas. The image also features some other native inhabitants, including the river blackfish and two common species of moth. The tree is a grey box, a species of Eucalyptus that is endemic to the region. I have depicted several traditional food sources eaten by our people, including wild flax, chocolate lily and myrnong (yam daisy). Bundjil the Wedge Tailed Eagle is the Creator Spirit of the Kulin people. Bundjil is shown with five panels on his wing, these represent the five language groups of the Kulin Nation.
