Pairs well with
This medium Parrying Malgarr (shield) features Barring Track Design and is handcrafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.
Traditionally, malgarr (shields) were used with liyangayil (fighting clubs) for hand-to-hand combat with our enemies. I have replicated the shape of these shields in my artwork.
Barring is a track that our old people used for walking to a different country. They also used tracks as part of a complex trade route system. Animals also have their own tracks, which we use to warranwgan (hunt) them.
All designs are based on traditional symbols from South East Australia. Each artefact comes with an information card about Mick Harding the artist, the artefact and its design.
