Parrying Malgarr Medium Wide with Marram Kangaroo Design.
Traditionally malgarr ( shields ) were used with liyangayil
( fighting clubs) for hand to hand combat with our enemies.
I have replicated the shape ofthese shields in my artwork.
Why Marram the Kangaroo has a tail and Warriin the Wombat doesn’t,
is one of our Taungwurrung creation stories. Marram & Warriin were
good mates, but one day they had a fight because Warriin would
not let Marram in his burrow– so Marram cut off Warriins tail with his
axe. Warriin got so mad he threw a spear at Marram, it became stuck in
his back end and is now his tail.
Hand crafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.
All artefacts come with an information card.
The card has information about the artist, artefact and design.
